DIY Blogger House Update and Inspiration
I’m getting seriously excited to watch our DIY Blogger House project come together!
It’s only been a few weeks since my last update post, but so many things have happened! I stopped by the other day to measure out a few spaces, and took a couple of shots of the cool finish work that is taking place. Everything’s getting so close to being finished so that we can get in there and decorate!
Remember when it just looked like this, less than a month ago!?
I’ve been dying to show you how my spaces are coming along, so I’ve teamed up with one of my favorite companies, and sponsors for the DIY Blogger House project, Homes.com, for this post, to talk a bit about how everything is shaping out!
If you’re newer to our blog, or haven’t had a chance to take a look, Cason and I also write articles and feature DIY projects of our own, along with home buying/selling tips and decorating advice over on the Homes.com blog each week.
Alright, so I originally got pulled onto this fun DIY Blogger Parade of Homes project to give this tiny little pantry some “pizzazz”, but then my designated area grew into helping with the whole dinging room design and a custom built in storage nook as well! I have LOTS of fun ideas for these spaces and have been pulling inspiration from all sorts of random places.
So let’s talk about this tiny food pantry,… something is better than nothing, eh?
๐
You know when you buy/build your first home and then about a year or two into it you say… “Why didn’t we think of doing that!?” or “We should have added this.”… well, I sort of had this feeling with my little pantry here at the DIY blogger house. In OUR pantry we WISH we would have added a light inside. I’m sure we still could, but we should have done it during the constructions phase. So, I didn’t care HOW small this little guy was…the DIY Blogger House pantry, was gettin’ a light! As some of you know, I also wished for a glass front door on our pantry, but at the time (and still) it’s a little out of our budget. Even though we didn’t have a ton to spend on this DIY house, Brian still made it possible to make sure I got a peek-a-boo glass door for this food closet! And the reason I’m so excited about that?…is because of what I’m doing on the walls inside!

Yes. It’s green. VERY green. And I love it!
Our house has SO many fun, bright, happy colors and patterns, that I wanted to use that same feeling in our little pantry and built-in dining room storage spaces. I’ve been obsessed with this simple scallop design for a while now and even bought a rug for my office in that pattern, so I was REALLY happy when I saw the addition of adorable scalloped siding on our DIY house last week! I thought that painting the pantry a bright green and then adding a white scallop design in vinyl would be really fun! This will give the DIY Blogger House pantry a similar look to our pantry at home, with the quatrefoil design.
I’m also going to be using a few of the same containers that we bought for our pantry, and a variation of the DIY crate project idea for this space too. I’m excited to show you how that all comes together in another post

Okay, now moving onto our dinging room. Even though Brian and I have collaborated a LOT on what this space’s overall style is going to look like, he has definitely done a lot of the leg work with picking out the perfect table, chairs, lighting fixtures and making sure our wood slat wall treatment is just right, so I’m going to be focusing a bit more on this cool built-in nook area, that you see below.
I have to tell you that I was very determined to get what I wanted in this little nook. ha! (poor Brian) The plans originally had this space as a second pantry with shelves and a door, but I insisted that this small area have a really special feel, with covered storage on the bottom, and glass display shelving on the top, a lot like the photo below, in the middle. I’m sure you all know by now how much of an advocate I am for taking each and EVERY space to it’s fullest potential, and I just couldn’t let this area go without something really awesome.
So for this space, I’ve decided to use a rug in my home again, as inspiration. I just love the Celtic knot, paneled design that this gray and white rug has in my kitchen, so I thought I’d design a vinyl decal that reflects that same feeling, and add it to the back of the exposed cupboard.
I’m not sure on exactly which of my new designs I’ll use yet, but I’ll keep you posted, and also let you know when they hit the shop ๐
Speaking of shopping, I’ve been on a mad dash trying to pull everything together that I’ll need before our DIY Blogger House has to be completely done on August 1st. (Aaaaah!)
One of my first stops and biggest hauls came from Ikea, where I picked up LOTS of pantry storage items, cool glass containers and dishes. I honestly LOVE that place, and not only is everything designed really well for small spaces, but it’s always SUPER affordable! I can’t wait to get everything into the space to see how it works and comes together!

…now if I could only convince my kids to get as excited about shopping for this DIY Blogger House as I am.
Taking a nap at home?… Never
Falling asleep 10 minutes before we pull into Ikea’s parking lot – E.V.E.R.Y time.

I love all of your little inspiration pieces! Drooling over your Ikea loot too. My family and I are moving to London in a few months for my husband's new job, (!), and can I just tell you how excited I am to deck our new flat out in Ikea's goodies?! I'm using that to console myself with all of the stuff I'm getting rid of now.
Anyway, keep up the good work!! ๐

Wow. How inspiring! Maybe I should finally do something with my pantry – my friends always make fun of it. But if I make it look nicer will that mean my kids will spend even MORE time in there? I'm always finding them in there even now, just staring. It's weird.

Wonderful pictures of the progress on the house, but the one I related to the most was the last one– precious that all kids fall asleep just when it's most inconvenient! Can't wait to see the finished house!

Looks awesome! Great detail!
On the pantry…I have one that is about 14 inches wide and 2 feet deep.Maybe it is too late for this but I have pull out drawers. I love having them since it is deep. THings don't get as lost and are easier to access.
Great idea for the nook area. will look great!
