Color my Room with MyColortopia by Glidden
This past year we’ve talked quite a bit about Glidden’s awesome tools from their MyColortopia site.
If you’re new and haven’t had a chance to visit and explore, basically, MyColortopia is a site full of great ideas on how to decorate with color and bring your house to life, with tips and tricks shared by lots of your favorite bloggers. It’s a destination where people who are easily overwhelmed by interior design decisions and painting can get advice, guidance and inspiration… and no matter how awesome we think we are, we ALL fall into the “overwhelmed category” with room makeovers from time to time, am I right?
MyColortopia offers a few really cool tools you can use to help you plan out your next room makeover. One we posted about before was the My Life, My Colors tool, to help you find out what color schemes best represent YOU, based on a few multiple choice questions that you answer about your personality and lifestyle. Another great resource that we shared was the Show Your Colors feature. This was awesome because it lets any homeowner submit their before and after photos from spaces they’ve redone in their house, so they can share it with others! You know me, I LOVE a good before and after… and I love lookin’ in on other people and how they live.

So now I’m REALLY excited to show you this brand new tool that MyColortopia released called Color my Room. Guys… it’s freakin’ AWESOME! Since our little laundry room is still a blank canvas and we have yet to do much to it since the last time we talked about it, I thought it would be fun to play around with this new color tool to get a few different looks.
It’s really simple, all you have to do is create a paint pallet, choose a photo of the room you want to try different paints on, follow the instructions on how to outline the areas you want painted and then fill in your wall with different shades to see what strikes your fancy!
Check it out!
Yeah, I got a little carried away (ha!) but honestly, how COOL is this!? Color changes EVERYTHING in a space, and it’s so great to see it happen right in front of you, without having to buy swatches or paint little samples on the wall first.
I think it’s totally genius, something all of us, no matter what our styling/decorating experience is, can use and such a good resource for anyone debating on which color to paint a room. You’ve GOT to go try it out and let me know what ya think.
🙂
Happy “painting!”
I have been sponsored by Glidden® brand paint to write this post but the thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.

This only works if your walls are already bare. I tried using it over wallpaper, but it just made the wallpaper brighter. Bummers! Was anxious to see what my kitchen would look like.

I actually never heard of MyColortopia, but it looks awesome. One of the biggest issues in renovating is deciding the right wall color. This is such an informative post. Thanks for sharing!

I am definitely going to check that out! I just did a post on my new blog about my dream guest bedroom, but I haven't quite found a color out of the thousands out there. I fall into the overwhelmed category, for sure.

Just curious….er nosey ~ are one of the colors you have on the walls ~ one you are going to use? I was immediately drawn to the bottom right, but also like the top left =)

Shelly, After I saw this post I spent an hour having fun with my kitchen. I even used this tool to recolor my cabinets. I'm itching to remodel them to a pretty French white style. This is a super fun tool and it's so going to get me into trouble. If hubby yells, I'm sending him to you. ☺

That is RAD!! No seriously….need to try this out for my dining room b/c I can not figure out WHAT to do with the bland space. I keep on hoping that one of these days House of Smiths will want to come do it for me =) Haha, wouldn't THAT be great!

Thank you so much for this resource. I'm going to try it right now. I've been wanting to change our living room for a while now and just can't commit to a color. This is absolutely perfect. You always have great ideas. Thanks, Shelley.

Ok this is totally random. I just have a question about paint colors. Because I know that you're awesome at everything you do, I have come to you! Are there basic rules with paint? Like can you use a cold color in one room and warm color in the next? Or is that a big no no.
House of Smiths says
Hmm… I personally like to try and stay with a pretty basic color scheme. So for example, we have a creamy white throughout most of the house, but in nook areas and rooms we will paint colors like warm gray, grey-blues, dusty greens, etc… ALL of these colors tend to have the same feel and hue. Meaning that we don't have bright orange in one space, and then a cool blue in another. Personally, I think a house should flow well. You should be able to walk from one room to another and never think… "Oh GOSH, this room is horrible, but the last one was AWESOME!" Does that make sense? That's why I try to push the theory of adding pattern and color through NON stationary items, like pillows, throws, a chair, rug, etc… These items are perfect for adding personality from one room to the next, without overwhelming your homes overall feel. PLUS you can change them out easily, if you ever want to switch your colors or decor to a different style.
🙂
I hope this helps!
Good luck!

Speaking of washing machines and dryers … well ok, you weren't speaking of them. But I wondered why type of machines you ordered? I remember Cason ordered them on line and they weren't the correct ones. And then you got the new ones. I'm in the market for a new washer and dryer, we have 14 year old front loads, yes the first front loads on the market. But I liked the look of the ones in the above picture with the glass windows and a top load that thinks it a front load, correct? Can you tell the manufacturer and if you [I mean Cason] is happy with them? Thanks Shelley

Ok, this is random too. What type of washer/dryer did Cason end up buying? I'm in the market and looked at what I think you might have there. Can you tell me the manufacturer and if you are both happy with the washer/dryer you picked out? Is that a top load that acts like a front load? Thanks so much
