Wire Basket Storage with Decorative Frame Labels & An Office Update
You know when you feel like you have a hundred projects in the works, and they’re all about 90% done, and then you get so stressed out trying to figure out WHAT project to get back to work on, FIRST… that you end up just FREAKING OUT one night on your poor husband, and start ugly crying about how you just wish you could focus on one thing at a time, instead of “project jumping” around!?!?…
.
.
.
Oh good, I’m not alone.
π
We’re slowly plucking away at things on our “to-do” list, for my office makeover, while we’re waiting on an accent chair I ordered, that won’t be here till the end of May. Some of you might be thinking… “You’re waiting on a single CHAIR, to finish up your entire office?” … the answer is, yes… I am. And the reason why, is because the chair looks like this:
Gah! I know. Not really a “House of Smiths” color per se, but I’m trying to throw in a few pops of “fun-ness” into my creative space… and I just kept coming back to raspberry PINK (because I LOVE it!) At first I thought I’d just use a small accent piece here or there, but then while discussing this pink chair for the 5th time in ONE week with my poor husband, Cason finally rolled his eyes and said… “Holy CRAP, I’ve never seen anyone so scared of a pink chair in my whole LIFE! Aren’t we suppose to be taking risks this year!?!?”
AH! He was right! It was just the push I needed to head over to the computer and click the “BUY” button.
And even better, I found it on sale over at Joss & Main that day. Guess it was meant to be!
Even though I’ve been doing a lot of home decorating these past 2 years, I still get scared to commit to larger, more expensive pieces, for the fear of not liking them once they’re actually IN the space, but then I got thinking… So MANY of us do this, and that’s what keeps us from progressing and moving forward, when trying to create a beautiful home.
Am I right?
We love all these amazing rooms we see in magazines, through Pinterest, and on blogs… but when it comes down to creating that same type of space, or using a similar color scheme in our OWN homes… we tend to psyche ourselves out, thinking… “Oh maybe that’s not really ME”, or “I won’t go ALL the way, I’ll just buy a pink frame and call it good.” And when all is said and done, we end up with a room that looks a lot like it was before, with just a random pink frame in the corner, ha!
I’m not saying that accenting with pops of color is a bad thing, or that this is the case for everyone, in EVERY room… but I just think that in certain situations, you have to take the big plunge and purchase that really AWESOME, standout item, that will create “the look” that you’re going for… even if it feels uncomfortable at first.
Sooooo, while I’m waiting on that fabulous raspberry pink ikat chair to arrive on my doorstep, I’ve been keeping myself busy organizing. This past week I organized my fabric, paper, and ribbon. I wanted a fun, cute way to display them, so here’s what I did:
I purchased these great, over sized, shabby-chic looking wire baskets with handles from Amazon, used a little twine and some adorable Orange Blossom small decorative frames, to create custom storage baskets for my new Ikea hacked worktable!
To add labels to the frames I just picked out a fun piece of scrapbooking paper, printed my labels out in one of my favorite fonts, and then adhered everything together.
I know I’ve said it about a TRILLION times before, but I’m all about design that is
Just because it has to be organized, doesn’t mean it can’t LOOK pretty too!
π
Now that we’re almost done with our shelving unit, that is going above this worktable, I need to get going on picking out some more beautiful, yet awesomely functional organizational items from one of our fabulous new sponsors, See Jane Work.
I’m loving the See Jane Work Basics collection in ocean and white. I think they’ll be great accent colors with the pinks and grays I have going on in the space already.
…and would you judge me if I said that the little metal tags on the outsides and cute lining inside is what really sold me on these storage boxes?
I’m a sucker for pretty lil’ details.

Question that has absolutely nothing to do with this post whatsoever, I am just wondering Shelley, where you get your clothes? They are always so incredibly cute!!

These are so pretty! I love how they work in that table you built. I have WAY more fabric than that, but I think I could find some things to fill those cute baskets!

A pink chair will do you some good! And I love the little wire baskets
And you are not even close to being alone of starting a billion projects and getting about 90 percent done on all of them. Then becoming stressed of not finishing them. My husband, mom in law, and I all do that!

HI Shelley, I know exactly how you feel. I've been working on my master bedroom for 2+ months now because I couldn't commit to ordering new dressers. Just did this yesterday and now I can finally move on and start decorating. Phew!

That is an amazing chair! I can't wait to see it in your space! And it is so true, it is often the risks that we're scared of most that truly end up making the space! I learned this while dabbling in painting!

I am loving this! I am slowly organizing my ever increasing food prop stash which I use as an excuse to buy up every gorgeous, cute, pretty, antique looking platter I can find. My fabric swatches will soon have more closet space than my actual clothes. GASP! Looks like IKEA may be getting a visit soon and I've got to find some of those baskets.

I wouldn't be afraid of that chair – it will look amazing! I wish I had the guts to buy a pink chair. Strike that – I wish my husband would be open to the idea of a pink chair.

love that little pop of the raspberry pink in your labels for your baskets! can't wait to see what it looks like all together. you know, you are teaching me patience with this whole "end of may" crap.. π

Shelley! It's going to be gorgeous! But I can so identify with your fear. Past crazy choices that felt good at the time that I'm stuck with now always make me second guess myself. But there's always DIY to transform things. π Love the labeled wire baskets!

I love the chair! Take risks, be bold, and as long as Cason doesn't hate it (which my husband does), go ahead.

You are so not alone. I can do all the construction/demo/reconstruction, but when it comes to pretty-fying and accessorizing. i can become so indecisive and afraid to commit. It drives me crazy.
However your chair is awesome!

I'm new to your blog and am loving it! Congrats to you and your hubbie on your new show. I can totally relate to what you were saying about being shy about introducing color or funky pieces into the home. My goal this year has been to branch out just as you are doing. Gotta love those husbands that tell it like it is. Mine is the same. I look forward to reading more posts from you!

Hey, First time readers of your blog and we love it!
All of your projects look great! The wire shelves are a great fit and a great look. I wish I had the creativity and imagination that you have to first think of these ideas and then implement them.
Hope your chair has arrived and you love it!

Wow β what a great colour for a chair! Although not generally a pink man myself I do like the shade and it would be a great contrast against white or grey walls and natural wood too. Itβs given me an idea actually too for some storage space I have in the dining room that is in need of a make-over.
