A Custom Dining Room Hutch & Pretty Little Pantry: Our DIY BloggerHouse Projects Revealed!
It’s done, it’s done, it’s finally DONE! Our Parade of Homes DIY Blogger House is finished and ready for you to see! There is so much to show you and tell you, that I’m going to have to break it up in a few posts, so I thought I’d start off sharing the details from the spaces I worked on first. Beginning with my built-in dining room hutch!
Oh my gosh, I love it! It’s perfect, and I want one in MY house! (don’t have space for one, but I could possibly find some) Just think… this space was just going to be a plain ol’ closet with a simple door, before I stepped in and opened my big mouth.
๐
Of course Cason and I couldn’t leave good enough alone, and had to add a bit of House of Smiths “flair” to my spaces with some of our new vinyl designs. I really like how they make the space pop, and add just that little extra special something.
In the dining room Brian decided to add this simple wall treatment to our space. I LOVE it, and will definitely be using the same concept in our home somewhere in the future. It’s just plain ol’ MDF boards, spaced out about an inch and a half from each other, and then painted all semi-gloss white. A spin off of regular board and batten and planking… Genius!
White Plates, Pots and Greenery – Ikea

Gray Vinyl Decals – The House of Smiths Designs
Next was the itty-bitty pantry. I was actually pretty excited to take on this space, because I wanted to show people who walked through the house, just how cool, even the smallest spaces can turn out, with a few simple ideas implemented!
I painted the inside of the pantry a beautiful green (Split Pea – by Sherwin Williams) and lined just the back three main shelves with a scalloped vinyl decal. Using space saving jars, containers and crates, I staged a bunch of the most common pantry items inside, to show people just how functional, organized, yet stylish this little space can really be!
Organizing Containers – Ikea
Kitchen Aid, Maple Syrup and Wall Decals – The House of Smiths Designs
Wooden Crates – DIY Project (coming soon!)

It was SO fun working with Brian on all of my decorating ideas. While he was a bit more modern and streamline, I took the feminine cottage-style approach, and together… they married quite nicely, if I say so myself.
๐
Working together with our little blogger team (we’re missing cute Laura, who isn’t pictured here) was SO amazingly fun.
A lot of work, yes.
A little stressful at times, sure.
But TOTALLY worth it?… Abso-freakin’-lutely!
I can’t think of any other girls (and guy) that I’d rather design with, decorate with, joke about feeling like sister-wives together with, or accomplishing this amazing feat with, other than these sweet, talented friends of mine.
I have to be honest and say that I’m a bit TOO attached to this house, and may be doing periodical drive-by’s after everything is said and done. There’s just something about actually FINISHING an entire space that makes me completely jealous sad to leave it. LOL.
Now if I just had expendable amounts of money and contractors at my fingertips……… oh, a girl can dream, right!? ๐
Like I mentioned before, I’ll be sharing more about the DIY Blogger House very soon, but for now, you can head on over to the other bloggers sites to check out their beautiful signature spaces, and click on our cute handout below, to read all about the house in detail and even see where we shopped for our fun decor!

I love the dining room table (one of the first projects on my list is the dining room!) and it says it's from Down East Home, but I couldn't find it anywhere online. I couldn't even find that they sell tables…could you help me out? Thanks! Keep up the great design work!

It's awesome! I love using decals on almost anything, from walls to doors to containers, they just make everything better! We have a few too many door sin our house so I used graphic decals to "label" each one, a coat hanger for the closet, mason jars for the pantry, even a man and woman on the powder room door!

The Blogger house was the first one we went to on the parade. It was so fun! I must have been in too big of a hurry though, because I did not go all the way around the corner of the dining room to see the hutch! Sadness! I loved your touch though, and I also reaaaally loved the mudroom. That was a super duper small pantry. Good job.

Love the hutch x a million. Can you share the cut list/ plans for it? We just moved to a house with zilcho storage/ shelf space and have been trying to come up with exactly that, but on a larger scale; six feet on either side of our fireplace! Yipes!! We thought maybe we would have to buy pre-made cabinets and attach shelving to the cabinets, but if you're able to share the plans we could maybe work it from scratch!
Laura says
Just came over from Emily A. Clark's and LOVE your plank walls. Did you install the mdf over flat walls? Would you ever do it over slightly textured walls? Thanks
